About the role

This is a new role and we reckon it's the most diverse, challenging and action-packed finance role in the new energy industry. The successful candidate will work on numerous groundbreaking projects, all while keeping the basics - such as management accounting - under solid control. This isn't an average day job. It's something that will challenge you beyond what you're probably used to and in the process, you'll receive a vast amount of learning that will fast-track your finance career.

Key responsibilities

  • Management accounting
    • Manage methodology and run reports monthly for billed revenue and unbilled revenue
    • Set up and run monthly process to accrue for unbilled expenses
    • Production of monthly management accounts
    • Production of financial report for Board
    • Oversee the production of complex reports for key commercial partners
  • Planning and forecasting
    • Lead the business planning process
    • Produce 3 year financial forecasts
    • Model cashflow on a monthly and intra-monthly basis
  • Credit management
    • Own the customer credit management policy (with implementation via the operations team)
    • Measure the effectiveness of collections performance and recommend changes to optimise collections
    • Ensure that doubtful debts are provided for or written off each month based on the credit policy
  • External reporting & auditing
    • Oversee BAS returns, company tax returns and audits in conjunction with external accountants
  • Purchasing controls
    • Oversee internal controls for company purchases
    • Report on opex vs budget in detail on a monthly basis
  • Market purchases
    • Oversee a process to validate external COGS, particularly wholesale, network and metering invoices
    • Ensure that wholesale, network and environmental purchases are always made on time and that they always comply with the Board-approved hedging strategy
  • Customer pricing
    • Lead the customer pricing function. Monitor key external dates and ensure customer tariffs remain accurate and relevant to market changes
    • Lead reprice projects twice each year to ensure price changes are implemented accurately and on time
    • Support the partnerships team to develop and implement new products
    • Ensure that our commercial partners receive an efficient and timely service when requiring pricing support
  • Compliance
    • Lead the company's compliance function by ensuring key regulatory obligations are kept up to date at all times
    • Oversee internal controls to ensure adherence to key obligations
    • Maintain a rolling calendar of key regulatory changes and regulatory/government reporting
    • Produce accurate regulatory/government reports ahead of the required submission dates
  • Company leadership
    • As a key member of the company's management team, add significant value to debates and decisions by ensuring all decisions are grounded in sound commercial and financial judgement

About you

  • You're a qualified accountant with at least 8 years post-graduate experience
  • You understand the cost stack of energy retailers and you've spent time producing high quality management accounts for a retail energy organisation
  • You've built up good experience of analysing opportunities, projects and financial statements
  • You're hungry for a career move that will broaden your skillset and accelerate your ability to gather the experience that will set you up for senior finance leadership roles

Bonus points if:

  • You have a skill for communicating with facts in a clear manner to senior stakeholders
  • You've spent at least two years in a business partner role for a busy commercial business unit
  • Your primary graduate - and possibly post-graduate - field of study was in finance/accounting
